Timeless icons of Knoll: Womb Chair
07/07/2020
The Womb Chair from Knoll International was developed at the personal request of the company's co-founder - Florence Knoll.
In 1948, the architect and designer commissioned her good friend Eero Saarinen to develop "a chair that was like a basket full of pillows - something she could really curl up in".
Being the middle of the last century, this kind of request was truly ground-breaking, as Eero Saarinen was eager to continue exploring the possibilities of a chair that achieved comfort through the shape of its shell, not the depth of its cushioning. Indeed it differed from classic lounge chairs, both in form and in use, also because it supports countless positions.
The result was the Womb armchair, an armchair destined to make history as one of the most famous, and comfortable, chairs of the modern furniture movement, and among the most iconic pieces of the Knoll brand because, despite its years, it never goes out of style.
Womb Chair is crafted from a steel frame where the seat shell is foam-covered molded fiberglass and the legs are seamless tubular steel with polished chrome plating, polished 18k gold plating or black paint.
Perfect for enlivening your living room with style and elegance, the comfortable upholstery of the Knoll armchair, with its cushions placed on the back and on the seat, ensures a high sitting comfort and provides soft shelter where loungers can while away the time.
Available in various colors, the armchair is highly customizable and adaptable to various types of furnishings.
