Ten years of Cestone, Flexform's iconic sofa

Ten years ago, designer Antonio Citterio created the Cestone sofa for Flexform, an innovative product that virtually overhauled the classic design perspectives of living room furniture.
While until quite recently sofas were placed more often than not against a wall or anyhow along the outer edge of the living room, with Cestone the sofa takes center stage, as it was specifically designed to be arranged in the middle of the room.
What makes this sofa so extraordinary as to be "in the limelight" are especially its back and sides, parts that cannot usually be counted on to bring added value. Instead, Cestone is made up of a metal structure upholstered with woven strips of cowhide, making its design really appealing.
Two options of the irregular woven pattern, with strips in two different widths, are available. The cowhide strips can be closely woven, forming a compact surface; or more loosely woven, allowing the underlying upholstery fabric to show through.
The sofa's exclusivity is not complete without mentioning the resulting 'checkerboard' pattern, making a strong visual statement that create a delightful textural contrast with the warmth of the soft, perfectly-proportioned upholstered parts.
The Cestone sofa is available in thirteen colours including four suede options.
The result is a piece of furniture, with its constructive details in intertwined leather, which perfectly embodies the extraordinary affinity between Flexform and this exquisite raw material, renowned and much-loved since ancient times.
Like many other Flexform sofas, it has enjoyed a specific role in redefining not only the language of contemporary living, but also its boundaries and its expression in domestic furnishings; all concepts that are closely bound to the many changes in today's lifestyles.
