New Aluminum Chair by Knoll
15/05/2018
During Milan Design Week 2018, Knoll presented the new Aluminum Chair designed by Marc Newson, in addition to its most iconic products.
Honoring the cantilevered chairs of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Newson's design has been conceived as a forward-looking expression that synthesizes simplicity, high quality materials and precision in the Modernist tradition.
The highly radical design of the chair reflects Newson's fascination with the space age, as well as his belief that design is about improving things and about looking to the future, pushing technology forward.
Defined by a single uninterrupted line, the chair design consists of the perfect combination of the organic shapes and precision engineering typical of the Knoll seating range.
Echoing the futuristic lines that continue to characterize Knoll's creations, the chair combines, in complete harmony, hard and soft, solid and transparent, evoking a visual weightlessness, where the seat floats effortlessly.
Furthermore, to render the chair even more exclusive, Newson sought to reimagine the tubular steel construction revolutionized by Mies and Bauhaus in favor of cast aluminum, a material he felt allowed for a more dynamic form.
The result is an extremely contemporary chair, consisting of three high-pressure castings - a main frame and two end caps - that connect to create an extraordinarily simple, yet structurally sound frame.
The chair will be available with or without arms, in three frame paints: black, soft white and grey; and six mesh colors: black, grey, blue, red, yellow and white.
