Artemide's Tolomeo Lampione Outdoor lamp wins the Wallpaper* Design Award
21/03/2017
Last January the Tolomeo Lampione outdoor lamp, designed by Michele De Lucchi for Artemide, won the Wallpaper* Design Award 2017 in the category "Best Garden Party".
Tolomeo Lampione is a new product to be added to the extant Tolomeo collection, making it even richer.
Its main feature lies in the fact that the light source is enclosed within a cover that diffuses the light through a transparent plastic element.
In its shape and even in the name itself, Tolomeo Lampione is clearly inspired by old street lamps that were still in use when street lights were obtained by burning oil.
Moreover, given that the elements making the structure have been strengthened and consolidated to support even the maximum stress, the result is an exceptionally resistant solution.
The first model designed for the Tolomeo collection, which this year celebrates its thirtieth anniversary, made its market debut in 1987 as a table lamp.
Following the success it achieved, the lamp soon became an icon of modern design and was awarded the prestigious Compasso d'Oro in 1989.
Over the last thirty years many more lamps have been added to that first lamp, to the point that the collection today is perfectly capable of catering to different needs and spaces.
It can be said that the Wallpaper* Design Award for Tolomeo Lampione once again confirms Artemide's overarching technological competence and design skills, as well as its ability to interpret most effectively many of the changes in lighting systems that we have seen in recent years.
