Knoll's Olivares included in Art Institute of Chicago Permanent Collection

In December 2016, the Art Institute of Chicago chose to add the Olivares Aluminum Chair, designed by Jonathan Olivares for Knoll, to its permanent collection.
In 2012, the Art Institute of Chicago hosted an exhibition by Jonathan Olivares Design Research, entitled "The Outdoor Office," an exhibit comprised of a series of speculative designs that explored the possibility of office spaces located outdoors.
Now, in keeping with the very first contact established with Olivares, the Knoll chair itself joins the museum's collection, its structure standing as testament to the subtle yet expansive possibilities of furniture innovation as a result of special manufacturing processes.
Olivares Aluminum Chair in fact is characterized by being cast entirely in one piece of aluminum and measuring three millimeters thick at its thinnest point, the chair is resolutely ultra-thin.
Demonstrating how, through experimentation, materials can be pushed beyond their conventional limits, this chair is certainly an exclusive piece and, therefore, certainly deserves a place in the museum's permanent collection.
Moreover, this choice is undoubtedly a very important milestone for the Brand, because it acknowledges how the Knoll penchant for technological and material experimentation always remains one of the features most acclaimed and appreciated by the general public.
