Earth table by Riva1920 entered for Interior Design Best of Year Award

Designed by Renzo Piano for Riva1920, the precious Earth table made of millennial New Zealand Kauri wood is competing for Interior Design's Best of Year 2016 award.

A preeminent competition, recognizing superior projects and products of the year in all categories of interior design, and acknowledging the designers, architects and manufacturers from around the world who have distinguished themselves for their creations, Interior Design's Best of Year 2016 is a challenge that is more than worth the effort.

Moreover, thanks to the exclusivity of the table, made from the ancient wood of 50,000-year old Kauri trees, Earth really has all it takes to win this important award.

Representing conviviality, openness and social aggregation, the table had made its first appearance during this year's Expo 2016, whose main theme was food, in the sense of a universal nourishment for the planet.

It is no coincidence that the shape of the circular top is designed to represent a "world" map, where the pieces of finely carved and shaped Kauri wood are suspended in clear resin and are meant to represent the continents.
