Red Dot Award 2016 awarded to Scarlett sofa and Assaya armchair by Poltrona Frau
07/06/2016
The Assaya armchair and Scarlett couch designed respectively by Satyendra Pakhalé and Jean-Marie Massaud for Poltrona Frau have been awarded the Red Dot Award 2016, an annual the international distinction for high design quality items.
Participants from 57 nations had registered about 5,200 products and innovations for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016, in what turned out to be a far from predictable and highly competitive challenge.
Only products which set themselves apart considerably through their excellent design receive the sought-after quality seal from the international Red Dot jury, therefore this is yet another important achievement for Poltrona Frau.
Part cozy sofa part daybed, Scarlett is a fascinating and generous loveseat that invites relaxation, thanks to its unusual circular shape. A project very much in line with Jean-Marie Massaud's style, known for his extraordinary ability in combining architectural geometries with full and soft volumes.
A list of key features complete the uniqueness of this sofa: the padded goose down, the polyurethane foam seat. and the eight castors which allow the sofa to rotate through 360°.
Another piece altogether, though certainly no different insofar as relaxation, Assaya is an armchair designed by Satyendra Pakhalé to celebrate Poltrona Frau's centenary in 2012 and now lives again in a new form that acts as a "bridge" between modernity and tradition.
Contemporaneity is interpreted as catering to the needs of an ever-changing reality and tradition in terms of the excellence of Poltrona Frau's craftsmanship with materials such as hide and leather. From its profile, the backrest recalls the sinuosity of a corset, and curves to embrace the sitter naturally. The design encapsulates a combination of leather, with rigid and soft elements, with the external hide modeled by a skillful series of cuts and stitches that give the material considerable ductility.
