Flexform's Groundpiece sofa hits the 15 year mark

Back in 2001 architect Antonio Citterio designed the Groundpiece sofa that went on to become an iconic piece for the Brand and is now celebrating its 15th birthday.
Groundpiece has revolutionized our way of thinking about sofas, introducing new proportions and usage modes, ultimately becoming a figurehead of what Flexform actually stands for: always keeping up with the times and in many ways being a forerunner of the new trends in world of living and interior design.
Comfortably deep, particularly low, and originally deconstructed with large goosedown cushions, Groundpiece has changed the way we sit on a sofa, making it less formal, lending itself to new functions.
Based on an awareness that people behave in new ways, on today's sofas we can read, relax, watch TV, but also use a laptop, or even have dinner.
Hence the idea to build low storage elements covered in cowhide into the frame, instead of sections of the back or armrest, thus offering useful surfaces on which to place objects.
In this way Groundpiece becomes more than a sofa, fulfilling functions that are normally left to other furnishings.
