Poltrona Frau for the Taiwan Design Contest
15/12/2015
The Taiwan Design Contest is an initiative supported and promoted by Poltrona Frau and its largest reseller in Taiwan, which aims to promote cultural exchanges between East and West.
The aim of the contest is to reward the best interior designer within two distinct categories.
The first is the Occupational design group, which includes professional architects and designers, who were asked to design a chair that perfectly represented a blend of the two cultures - Chinese and Italian.
The second is the Amateur design group, which instead includes young students from design schools assessed upon designing a furniture item or furnishing complement in leather.
This year's winner for the first category was Lu Shi-Chieh, an architect who took part with his Ming's Heart armchair, a furniture item that will be officially launched during the Salone del Mobile 2016.
Ming's Heart is an armchair whose essential and elegant design perfectly embraces the twin souls - Chinese and Italian - of the interiors living tradition.
In fact, whereas it draws inspiration from the sleek and austere forms of ancient Chinese chairs from the Ming period, it also furthers Italian traditional leather craftsmanship so distinctly represented by Poltrona Frau, one of its foremost ambassadors in the world.
The winner of the Amateur Design Group was Wu Chih-Wei, a young student who entered the competition with his "Chinese Cabinet", a project that will receive a special mention.
All projects in both categories were carefully screened and judged by an Italian and a Taiwanese panel.
