DU 55 by Poltrona Frau in Padua
11/11/2015
The famous DU55 chair, designed for Poltrona Frau by Gastone Rinaldi in 1954, was one of the star attractions at an exhibition held between October 1 and 24 in Padua and dedicated to RIMA, the city's historical metal furniture manufacturer, founded in 1916 by Gastone's father, Mario Rinaldi.
A historical 50s icon, DU55 was recently brought back onto the contemporary scene by Poltrona Frau in a bid to revisit its typical rounded geometries, the study of the thicknesses and padding, and the relationship between full and empty spaces, being all hallmarks of a chair with a strong personality.
The curved shell and sleek feet are a guarantee of the stability and comfort of this relaxing and welcoming chair, thus fulfilling its broad-based aesthetic appeal.
The exhibition was held in the picturesque Palazzo Cigola Fenaroli Vallotti and the roughly 100 exhibits were arranged in different spaces classified according to themes, namely, study and work, cinema, interior design and collaborations with external designers.
