Poliform's WEB Bookcase at Expo Milano 2015
25/08/2015
Poliform is present at Expo Milano inside the Vanke Pavilion, wholly dedicated to the Chinese real estate giant that provides more than half a million dwellings and management services to 1.5 million Chinese nationals.
Designed by architect Daniel Libeskind, the aim of the pavilion is to narrate a Chinese tale in the form of a "Virtual forest" to the world: this unique space comprises approximately 300 screens installed in an irregular pattern that will be showing a short film lasting 8-10 minutes, depicting highlights in the everyday life of Chinese communities.
It is within the area dedicated to this project's partners that the Web bookcases designed by Daniel Libeskind for Poliform are to be found.
As the name suggests, WEB fits the bill as the furniture of choice for the Vanke pavilion. In the same way as with the mind-boggling 300 screens, the bookcase captures the essence of today's global societies with its strong focus on media presence and technology.
WEB also sums up neatly the contemporary concept of "network".
Just as the Internet allows users to browse and explore an endless sequence of content that is connected to each other by links, the WEB bookcase with its alternating blocks and voids makes for a highly diversified use of all its parts, as well as conveying the very idea of "network" on account of its particular aesthetic.
A truly unique item in its right and with a strong visual impact which goes way beyond its natural function of storing books.
